닐 게이먼 작가님께서 감독이 되고 싶은 학생이 세상에 감독이 많으니까 다른 일을 하라고 들었다고 하니까 주신 답이에요.
Saying that we have enough artists is like saying we have enough scientists, we have enough designers, we have enough politicians — we have enough politicians — but, you know, nobody gets to be you except you. Nobody has your point of view except you. Nobody gets to bring to the world the things that you get to bring to the world — uniquely get to bring to the world — except you.
So, saying that there are enough writers out there, enough directors out there, enough people with points of view. Well yeah, there are, but none of them are you. And none of those people is going to make the art that you are going to make. None of them is going to change people and change the world in the way that you could change it.
So if you believe somebody that says “no, no, we’ve got enough of those,” then all it means is that you are giving up your chance to change the world in the way that only you can change it.
세상에 예술가가 더 필요없다는 말은 세상에 과학자가 더 필요 없다는말, 디자이너가 더 필요없다는 말, 정치가가 더 필요없는 말과 같아요 - 정치가는 더 필요 없지만- 하지만, 다른 누구도 당신 외에 당신이 될 수 없어요. 당신 외의 어느 누구도 당신의 시점을 가질 수 없어요. 어느 누구도 당신이 이 세상에 가져올 수 있는것-정말 이 세상에서 가장 특별한 무언가를-을 당신 말고는 가져올 수 없어요.
그래서 세상에 작가가 더 필요없다는 말, 감독이 더 필요없다는 말, 다른 시점을 가지고 있는 사람들이 더 필요없다는 말. 그래요, 많죠. 하지만 그 누구도 당신은 아니잖아요. 그리고 그들중 어느 누구도 당신이 만들 작품을 만들지는 않을거에요.
그 어느 누구도 당신이 할 수 있는것처럼 사람을 바꾸고 세상을 바꿀 수 없어요.
그래서 누군가가 "아냐, 아냐, 우리 그런거 더 필요없어" 라고 하는 말을 믿는다면, 그렇다면 그건 그저 당신은 당신만이 할 수 있는 방식으로 세상을 바꿀 수 있는 기회를 포기한다는 의미에요.
